How to change Thunderbird theme from dark mode to light mode?

Categories: ,

Are you facing problems reading emails in Thunderbird email client because of dark theme. Do you want to switch Thunderbird color mode from dark to light? In this post, we’ll discuss how to change Thunderbird theme from dark mode to light mode.

Some Thunderbird users complained that they were unable to read the text in emails because the text was dark because Thunderbird was on dark mode. It was observed that Thunderbird email client was using the default theme, which follows the default Windows 10 theme. If the Windows 10 theme is dark mode, Thunderbird also follows dark mode. And sometimes, emails are difficult to read in dark mode as the text in the email also turns dark. Ideally, the text should be contrasting with the background color. So, if you are facing a similar situation, we shall see how to switch Thunderbird theme to light mode while keeping dark mode in Windows 10.

Thunderbird comes with a few basic themes which you can manage at Add-ons > Themes.

The default theme has the following description – “theme with the operating system colour scheme.”. It means it will adapt to the system theme color.

If you are unable to read some emails properly because of the dark theme, then you need to switch from dark mode. But it may be inconvenient to change the Windows color mode each time you face such an issue. So it would be better to switch Thunderbird theme to light mode but keep dark theme in Windows.

To change Thunderbird Theme to Light mode, follow the steps below:

  • At the top right of the Thunderbird window, click the menu button > Add-ons > Themes
  • Find the light theme and Click ENABLE on the LIGHT THEME

This will enable light theme in Thunderbird email client but keep dark mode in Windows.

This will solve the issue in Thunderbird if you are unable to read emails in Thunderbird because the text also turned black.
